The Challenge:

Ernest D. Menold, Inc.’s old browser-based low-code platform faced inefficiencies in their job lifecycle processes. It was a difficult platform to customize and build out for more of their processes. Manual processes dominated critical job lifecycle activities, including quoting, job creation, shop order submissions, and job completion. This overreliance on manual tasks led to issues with errors, processing delays, and reduced operational efficiency.

The organization needed a modern, automated solution within the Microsoft environment to streamline these processes, improve workflow accuracy and transparency, and free up employees' time for higher-value activities.

The Solution:

To address these challenges, Aerie collaborated closely with Ernest D. Menold’s leadership team to design and implement a robust solution using the Microsoft Power Platform. The developed system automated the job lifecycle processes from quoting to job completion, reducing reliance on manual interventions, allowing employees to confidently focus on higher-value tasks.

  • CRM: Tracking customers and contacts in a central location for use by other parts of the business.

  • Workflow Automation: Replacing manual tasks with automated workflows for increased accuracy and efficiency.

  • SharePoint Document Integration: SharePoint for document storage related to Quotes, Jobs, Shop Orders.

  • Job tracking: Tracking information about a Job including the Job’s schedule of values, the jobsite location, potential change orders, all pertinent accounting information to bill the project.

  • Shop Order Tracking: Visibility for Construction team into Shop Orders to see what status their Shop Order is in.

  • Custom Naming Conventions: Utilizing existing naming conventions of a 77 year old business to keep continuity with historical data.

  • Data Accuracy: Enhanced data integrity, enabling confident decision-making and reporting.

The Impact:

Because the solution only required only a single Model application, the licensing cost was kept low at $5 per user per month, offering significant value for its price. This approach not only addressed the immediate operational challenges but also aligned with Ernest D. Menold’s long-term strategic goals. They were previously paying for Construction Project Management solutions, and building the Model application on Microsoft Power Platform allowed them to maintain similar overhead costs.

Phase 1 of the project has replaced the existing functionality of the previous solution with an enhanced solution in the Power Platform. The organization is no longer using a system that they can’t customize any further. The Power Platform has opened the door for additional development to further refine their existing processes and expand the solution to incorporate other parts of the business.
